Pernille Arends

Pernille Arends' beautiful bedroom was one of the most repined pins a few months ago: who doesn't remember that beautiful hexagonal bedside light coming down from the ceiling?
Recently I spotted some more images of her home on the Style Files and wanted to share them with you. What do you think of the extensive use of wood? I find quite interesting how she managed to mix and balanced so many different element made of different qualities.

Xmas green

Elle Decoration Christmas issue is all about green this year, with painted walls to small conifers and accessories. Soft brown tones and copper accents add that twist to the inspiring collection of ideas for the upcoming festive season. My favourite detail is the dark green wall that works as a perfect background for the glittering decorations of the Christmas tree.

PLACES | Retail space

These retail spaces belongs to the Stockholm and Gotheborg stores of Our Legacy, the Swedish clothing brand. Both projects are developed by architecture studio Arrhov Frick, founded in  2012 by Johan Arrhov and Henrik Frick. The core of their retail designs is purely Scandinavian with that amazing touch of casual and cool that makes northern interiors so beautiful. The essential material palette of wood, glass and steel - with touches of marble- fits perfectly the fusion of strong pure lines and the casual use of "accesories", like the leaning mirrors in the fourth image.

Aussie home design

Chris Colwell is a Sidney based designer who started as as a cabinet maker before starting his own range of furniture and accessories for the home. His favourite woods are walnut and oak combined with leather and characterized by a perfect fusion of form and function. My favourite piece is the bench pictured above: to me it has such an "intimate" atmosphere. Colwell's work ws part of the selection of Share Design Exclusives shopping event last October.

Monday Crush | Xmas mood

During these last few days, I spent some time surfing the net in search of xmas images: I'm working on a project for work and I also developed a pinterest board for the Marimekko giveaway hold at Emma Design Blogg. By Sunday night I was suffering from the sweetest overdose of Xmas inspiration! So, I thought to pick some of my favourite images and share them with you for this Monday Crush: hope you will enjoy the Season mood...

Danish Modern

I stumbled across this article on BoBedre magazine and got immediatly caught by the pictures. The styling is curated by Elisabeth Kruse of Glotti, who has been collaborating with the Danish magazine for a while. The collection of objects displayed has definitely enlarged the Xmas wishlist with the Alfredo Teapot, a limited edition of porcelain with hand-stitched leather handle by Georg Jensen, the "old favourite of mine" Baffi brush by GamFratesi Studio and the not yet produced Widen Lounge Chair, designed by Shannon & Aruñas as graduation at the Royal Academy Schools of Architecture and Design.

On the walls

There is a styling that, by now,  must have been pinned by every single one and it is the one by Eva Lilja Löwenhielm: a soft combination of pink and neutral tones where every detail has been perfectly curated. While surfing the web, I also found these shots from another home on sale at Fantastic Frank and liked them so much I wanted to share them with you.

FOCUS ON | Interior windows

When I first spotted the use of industrial windows used inside here, I found the idea very interesting. From one side, it provides separation when necessary but allows light to enter in rooms that would be quite dark. In this Parisienne flat renovated by Septembre studio, the idea is extended to a the entire wall, creating a separation between the living area and the bedrooms. The flat, that used to be a workshop, is enriched by the industrial look of the windows that become a strong counterpart of the black wall on the other side.

Warm minimalism

The former industrial Whitmore Building has been renovated by English architect Trevor Horne. It is a mixed-use scheme, housing studios for artists and architects on the ground and first floors, with few apartments owned by the same artists above. The material palette is reduced to concrete soffits, waxed oak flooring and basalt stone. The choice of using a similar colour of the materials for the ceilings and floors not only increases the sense of depth of the space but make the two horizontal surfaces look like a mirror. My favourite element is the bed: the essential wire structure in white makes it looks like it's floating in the room.

Xmas #1

Though there's still more than a month to Christmas, now it's the time to start doing some nice home made decorations. Annaleena Leino has just published this diy for a new candle holder: a minimal, elegant composition in white an copper. To see full instructions, please visit her blog here.

Save the Children

These pictures are part of the photoshooting Petra Bindel did to support Rädda Barnen (Save the Children).
All the items shown are available for purchase at their Design Shop: the collection is amazing. Pieces from Hay Design, a cute T-Shirt from Hope you could have seen here, a great illustration by Martin Bergström and a Ned Brass Lamp are just few of the selected objects. Christmas is close!

Indoor woodland

I'm literally starving for nature. Is it this even possible? I miss so much my walks along the small canals, under the trees canopy of my father's nursery to collect fruits, leaves ad branches to use for the upcoming Xmas...Don't get me wrong, I love Barcelona and the urban environment but sometimes I feel the need for something...natural.
