A new project by Studio Oink

German office STUDIO OINK specializes in interior and set design for both private customers and media partners. Its work is always characterized by a simple, essential approach to the space and set and the ability to bring together poetry and function into the design.
Lea Korzeczek and Matthias Hiller, the founders and creative directors of STUDIO OINK, has just released their latest styling work, HOUSE C.A.L. The space is calm and relaxing thanks to the soft neutral tones and the use of wood furniture.

I especially like the Aura Ligths by Ladies and Gentleman Studio, an old friend of my wishlist.

Salone del Mobile | Brdr. Krüger in Milan

The biggest event in the design world is about to start: next Tuesday, April the 8th, the 2014 edition of the Salone del Mobile will open its doors in Milan. There is always a very special excitment and great expectation around the Milan Design Week and the most difficult part is usually to be able to pick the best companies to visit.
Anyone passionate for Scandinavian design should not miss to visit Brdr. Krüger booth at the DANISH LIVINGroom at Salone del Mobile InternationalBrdr. Krüger was founded by brothers Theodor and Ferdinand 125 years ago and, still, it is a family run and owned business completely dedicated to its passion for  high-quality woodcraft.

Widely known for their production of design classics designed by  Hans Bølling and Nanna Ditzel, Brdr. Krüger will take a new step and present two products during the upcoming Salone del Mobile: the Ferdinand chair designed by Copenhagen-based design studio OEO and the Lune Lamp, by Norwegian designer Sverre Uhnger. The high-quality craftmanship, that the company is famous for, is revealed in the productions of both new products while embrancing modern technology.
The Lune lamp is a great example of it. Inspired by the wood-turned object (the sphere), it reveals a tactile and welcoming feeling and makes a perfect fit for any home. It is available in three finishings: smoked oak, linseed oil-treated oak and soap-treated oak, the last one being my favourite.

In the Ferdinand chair we find the same great passion and woodcraft ability that charactherized the Lune lamp and Brdr. Krüger production - the famous Wooden Monkey designed by Kay Bojesen is produced by the company since 1992. The piece sculptural appearance, especially of its backrest, is enhanced by the the soaped-oak finish that gives the piece a very domestic and honest touch.

We could stay in front of two new design icons of  Scandinavian design. So, if you are in Milan next week, take a chance to go and feel these two great pieces. Brdr. Krüger the Danish Livingroom in Hall 10, Stand B03.

SELECTED| Sempé w103

The Sempé w103 lamps were presented at Milan Design Week last year. Designed by French Inge Sempé, they are manufactured by Swedish Wästberg. Available in  7 very different tones – bright, soft, clear, dark -, they are easy to be combined together. My favourite are the clamp version and the desk one.

Interior trends 2014 / Lighting

Today I want to share with you some of my favourite lighting elements from the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, starting with the Volume lamp designed by GamFratesi for Lightyears (above here). The table lamp was inspired by the old stereo amplifiers in the mechanical gesture of the button rotation that reminds of the increasing or decreasing of the volume.

At the fair, I also had the chance to see the Ascent lamp designed by Daniel Ribakken for Luceplan. The lamp was presented last year at Euroluce in Milan and was a real success. Also, from the same company and designer, the Counterbalance lamp (below).

The GM Pendant by Menu.

Brass Mass Light by Norm Architects above In Between chair for &Tradition.

From the Greenhouse area dedicated to the young designers.

My favourite object at the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair was the Noidoi lamp, in the Greenhouse area (the new talents). Designed by a Norwegian-Romanian company,  it's a sculpture-like element that adapts to the different lighting needs. In fact, the different facets of its base serves to orientate the lighting in different direction, therefore adapting to different needs. (above). Finally, the Pirouette Table Lamp by Studio Baag Milano. This draws its inspiration from old-fashioned spinning top and its whirling movement. Available in ash, oak or walnut wood with brass details or a playful striped-marble version (below).

A picture for Flos

The end of 2013 was full of very good news for FNWG and me, as some of you already know through my Facebook. But, the loads of work and all the family trips arranged for Christmas holidays made impossible to share it with you, also due to an almost complete lack of internet connection during those days.
I'm happy to tell you the worldwide famous Italian brand FLOS contacted me because they wanted to use a picture of my MayDay lamp to include in the styling for the Gift Collection this past Christmas.

FLOS  has been one of the world leaders in decorative lighting for the last 50 years for their combination of high quality and innovative design and production. Some of their works are among the most iconic pieces not only of Italian design but of design worldwide, as testified by the number of them included in the Moma collection. I must confess I have a great passion for their products: Castiglioni's Parentesi is hanging beautifully in our living room and, hopefully, the 265 by Paolo Rizzatto will also be part of our home soon.

The picture that captured Flos attention was the one in this post: the white space turned out to be the perfect background to underline the MayDay lamp, designed by Grcic and used here as a bedside light. Eventually, the photograph selected was the one above that was never published: I find it has got a more delicate touch and a Japanese memory in it.

While preparing the post, I checked Flos selection and couldn't help to pick a few of their lamps for a special wish list: any of these objects would be a most desirable element to have at home. I really struggle to choose one in particular:  how is it possible to prefer Gatto Piccolo by Castiglioni to Tab T or Piani's table lamp  by the Bouroullec brothers?

Check the complete list here for more inspiration.

Christmas at home

If you have been following fnwg for a while, you must remember the Xmas mood board I made a few week ago (if not, you can find it here). I always loved the Season but this year, after loads of Christmas decorations for the shop in Italy, my overdose had reached its climax. I still wanted to create a cosy, wintery atmosphere where white shades could mix with neutral tones and natural elements. But I really needed something minimal.

This is a spot of our bedroom after the decoration session. It's simple but make me feel so bright and warm inside...

Many thanks to Deborah Beau of Kickcan and conkers for the lighting tip!

Shades of Muuto I

Muuto  Autumn Winter 2013 catalogue is out and I checked it immediatly and here they were, the playful and contemporary rounded lines of one of my favourite Scandinavian design company. I love the colours chosen for the new lines: shades of mint are here mixed with natural wood and grey tones. Cozy. More shades to come.

Main trends show a preference for copper and raw wood - of course - together with light pastels tone and edgy neon touches. You can find the catalogue here.

Llamas Valley

This is the BIG NEWS WEEK. As you have probably noticed, I haven't been posting very often recently and the reason is ... I have been busy trying to get our home ready for an interview and photo shooting with the amazing people at online magazine Llamas Valley! It was very exciting to get everything ready and style the details but also a bit of a "tour de force" (for the cleaning, mainly). The article will be published in the English issue of the magazine, probably by the end of July. I cannot wait to see it! For now, I leave you with some pictures I took in our bedroom. You can see more pictures in my Instagram account here. A big thanks goes to Indre and Tim: great team!

PS: Sorry for the quality of the pictures but, as you probably know if you follow my IG account, my camera got broken last week... Sigh.

Mikko Ryhänen & Artek

Helsinki based photographer Mikko Ryhänen has worked for many famous Finnish brands, such as Iittala and Artek. The pictures I show here are actually taken from the furniture company collection for FW 2011 and 2012. I find the general atmosphere extremely tranquil, "carefree" as the very company described in its facebook page. The huge mirror in the living room is a great element but my most favourite is without a doubt the small shelf at the entrance: it looks like a family treasure passed from a generation to another, doesn't it?
I've always appreciated Artek products: the very first time I saw them was in "Scandinavian Modern", a great gift I received for my 18th birthday. I think I could say they were those who initiated me to my great addiction to Nordic design.

Mikko is also husband to talented Finnish stylist Joanna Laajisto, whose work was published in the blog before, here and here.

Orienta là

As you already know, I have the same addiction to lamps that most of women has got for shoes. Today I have a special selection: Orienta Là lamp system by Enrica Mosciaro and Gonzalo Milà of Fusina6 for Viabizzuno. One of my best friends joined Viabizzuno team a few weeks ago so I have a special thing with this brand as you can imagine: I'm very happy for my friend who I believe is much more talented than he himself think. Then, the lamp is a collaboration between an Italian architect and a designer from Barcelona. But, above all, I think the system is very clever: I love flexible objects that can adapt to several need and use and this is the case. The lamp was designed back in 2010 for Hotel Mob5 on the Lake of Garda, Verona. You can find more images here.
